Yetta Kurland Live! 5-9-2012 – Obama & Marriage Equality and The 2012 Chloes

This week we talked about Barack Obama’s endorsement of Marriage Equality and what it means for our community. We were joined by Cathy Marino-Thomas of Marriage Equality USA, Steven Thrasher of The Village Voice, Chris Geidner of Metro Weekly and District Leader and Barack Obama Delegate Paul Newell.

Then we spoke about the 2012 Chloe Awards with performance artists Viva Ruiz and T De Long-Dzubilo, Occupy Trans-Activist Prerna Sampat, Amanda Lugg of the We Can End AIDS Coalition and Filmmaker Michael Kasino.  The annual Chloe Awards ceremony will tomorrow night at Judson Memorial Church.

Yetta Kurland Live! 5-2-2012- A Queer and Pleasant Danger & Justice for Jazz Artists

This week we talked with Kate Bornstein, Barbara Carrellas and The Village Voice’s Tony Ortega about Bornstein’s new book A Queer and Pleasant Danger. The memoir tells the true story of a nice Jewish boy who joins the Church of Scientology, and leaves 12 years later to become the lovely lady she is today.  Ortega’s front page article on Bornstein   appeared in the Village Voice.

Then we were be joined by Jazz musician Bertha Hope and Todd Weeks of the Local 802 AFM Associated Musicians of Greater New York, to talk about their Justice for Jazz Artists campaign to bring fair pay and benefits to New York’s Jazz musicians.
